Tale 5

The Tufts and Ringlets (T&R) Machine

imageLemon Drop Valley was getting ready for the Grand Opening of Aboo-Kaboom. The seashore was literally dammed up with folks, babbling about transformation miracles, donkey roasts, chinchilla balls, and goodness knows what else.

Local society matrons had been busy creating new outfits. Moora has ordered a chinchilla coat, but due to the shortage of the precious fur in Lemon Drop Valley, she had to settle for a jacket made of dyed fox. After all, she was not prepared to compromise her beauty!

New hats, silks and laces, beaded clutch bags and other doodads were fetched from their trunks. Houses were painted, silver dinnerware was polished, and a Lemon Drop Valley banner was hung near the monument with a candied lemon torte embroidered on it.

Beautiful Yushkas literally besieged their Tufts and Ringlets Machine. And although a motto was engraved on its door: “If words are kept in check by kids, silence will not fall to bits,” silence was observed only to a point.

Yushkas couldn’t resist exchanging the latest news.

“Volchaks are back,” whispered Yushka Loosha.

But when everyone's eyes widened in horror, Loosha was already diving into the T&R Machine head-first. Scissors and combs started to do their voodoo dance at her. Then she swam under the shower room, in the drying compartment, and, finally, in the curling place.

A long woolen thread started to advance from the T&R machine to a rattling system that weaved the thinnest signature fabric. That's how Yushka’s precious fur was created!

At last, the sweet-smelling Lооsha emerged from a drying and curling chambers with a new hairstyle. And the rest of the girls surrounded the glamorously transformed friend to ooh and ahh, nodding their heads, and tugging at her ringlets.

However, when it was Stella’s turn to get into the T&R machine, only ruins remained from the temple’s motto. She banged the door open, jumped up on a chair, and started to sing her starry song.

Can you imagine? Came into my daze,
A stranger with a frightened gaze.
I said: "I'm Stella. I adore burlesque,
Renown, splendor, glory, fluoresce …

A bond with me, like with Michelle Lamour,
Is sought by Cupid, aka Amour.
“I'm flattered that your lips are tightly locked,"
He said and veiled his features with a cloak.

And promptly from Seville to Granada
There caroled, trilled and chanted serenades,
Comedians appeared and buffoons.
The mountain echo rumbled jolly tunes:

”I'm Stella, and I love burlesque,
Renown, honors, glory, fluoresce …"

Came into a view a footman in a livery
With a suave package scheduled for delivery.
Passed diner invitation from the Royal court
For me alone, no fatherly escort.

And promptly from Seville to Granada
There caroled, trilled and chanted serenades,
Comedians appeared and buffoons.
The mountain echo rumbled jolly tunes:

”I'm Stella. I adore burlesque,
Renown, honors, glory, fluoresce …"

On boardwalk suddenly began a heavy storm
The wind left trees and boughs deadly torn.
But I spread out my golden parasol
And dazzling sun us instantly condoles.

I wish to get some voguish, high–heeled sandals.
And in a wink my wish is being handled.
What’s more, a dress of radiant lazuli
Is floating in the yonder tinted with azure.

And I'm writing on an anchored firmament
“The nighty stars are capturing momentum.
But as a glimmer pops up of blue dawn
The sky’s by only Stella–star adorned!"

But what is it? The blanket flew away
My lofty dream has suffered mortal sway.
No longer from Seville to Granada
Mellifluous resound serenades:

”I'm Stella, I adore burlesque,
Renown, honors, glory, fluoresce …
A bond with me, like with Michelle Lamour,
Is sought by Cupid, aka Amour.”
